Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how the Nightproof iOS app ("Nightproof", "we", "us", or "the app") handles information when you use it on your iPhone and paired Apple Watch.

The short version: Nightproof does not run a server, does not collect personal data, and does not share or sell your information. Everything you do in the app stays on your device, except the optional Live Buddy Sync feature described below, which rides your own iCloud.

What we store on your device

Nightproof is designed to function on your device. The following is stored locally:

• The apps and categories you choose to restrict. When you select apps to block during Night Out Mode, that selection is stored on your device by Apple's Family Controls framework. We never see what you picked. Apple's framework returns an opaque token, not the actual app names.
• Blocked-attempt records. When iOS shows a shield because you tried to open a restricted app, the app records a timestamp and an estimated dollar amount (derived from the app's category) so it can show you a Morning Report. This is stored only on your device.
• Challenge results. Pass/fail outcomes, times, and accuracy scores for the challenges are stored locally so the app can build a personal baseline.
• Buddy contact entries. If you add a buddy to call or text, the name and phone number you enter are stored locally.
• Got-Home-Safe events and app preferences. Timestamps, theme, sound and haptic toggles, and schedule settings are stored locally.

Live Buddy Sync (optional, uses your iCloud)

If you turn on Live Buddy Sync, Nightproof lets a friend see your live night-out status (out and locked, got home safe, or used an override). This works through Apple's CloudKit, using your own iCloud account. Specifically:

• You and your buddy link by trading a short random code. The feature is keyed to that code, not to your name, phone number, or Apple ID.
• Your status is stored in the CloudKit public database that Apple hosts. We do not run this server and cannot see your identity through it.
• Linking is two-sided: a buddy only sees your status after you both approve the link, and either of you can unlink at any time. You can rotate your code to cut off everyone who had the old one.
• If you never enable Live Buddy Sync, no status data leaves your device.

Payments

Nightproof offers a one-time in-app purchase to unlock premium features. All payments are processed by Apple through the App Store. We never receive or store your payment card, billing address, or Apple ID. Whether you have purchased the unlock is determined by Apple's on-device receipt; we do not track it on any server.

What we do NOT collect

• We do not collect your name, email, IP address, advertising identifier, or precise location.
• We do not use any third-party analytics, crash-reporting, advertising, or tracking SDK.
• We do not operate a server that receives your personal data.
• We do not read your contacts. Buddy entries are only the ones you type in.

Other sharing

• Calling or texting a buddy. If you tap a buddy to call or text, iOS opens the Phone or Messages app with the number pre-filled. You send the message, through iOS. Carrier rates apply.
• Apple Watch sync. If you have a paired Apple Watch with the Nightproof app, lock status and totals sync between phone and watch via Apple's WatchConnectivity framework, over the link between your two devices.
• iCloud Backup. If you have iCloud Backup enabled, your Nightproof data is included in your encrypted backup like any other app's data. Only you can access it.

Family Controls

Nightproof uses Apple's Family Controls and DeviceActivity frameworks to let you voluntarily restrict access to apps you choose, during scenarios you choose. We never restrict apps without your explicit selection and activation. You can revoke authorization any time in iOS Settings, Screen Time, Nightproof.

Children

Nightproof is intended for users 17 and older (App Store age rating 17+). We do not knowingly collect any data from anyone under 17.

Your rights

• Access: Open the app to see all your data.
• Deletion: Uninstall the app and all local data is permanently removed. To remove Live Buddy Sync data, unlink your buddies or rotate your code before uninstalling.

Changes to this policy

If we change what is collected, we'll update the date above and, where the change is material, note it in the app's release notes.
